Department of legal advice was created by the order N 213 of the Interior Ministry of the Republic of Belarus on the 15.09.2003.

The department is the structural unit of the Academy. Its tasks include the guaranteeing of functioning of faculties, departments, divisions and services of the Academy and observance of legality of their activity. The staff of the department organise work on perfection of legal foundations of activity of the Academy of the Interior Ministry.

Main areas of activity:

1. Assistance in observance of legality in the activity of the Academy and its executive officers;
2. Monitoring the draft normative and legal acts submitted for signing by the head of the Academy for their compliance with laws and international treaties, in which the Republic of Belarus participates;
3. Recovery of money spent on the training of cadets expelled from the Academy and dismissed from service in the organs of internal affairs;
4. Direct involvement in the development of draft laws and other legal acts in accordance with the competence of the Academy of the Interior Ministry;
5. Provision of legal analysis in conjunction with structural units of the Academy of local regulations governing the activities of the Academy, for their compliance with the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus and the Belarusian legislation;
6. Legal advice to officials and departments of the Academy in the main areas of activity;
7. Protection of property rights and interests of the educational establishment in courts, arbitration courts and other state bodies;
8. Participation in the preparation and conclusion by the Academy of contracts, signing of agreements, making suggestions to ensure their proper implementation;
9. Consideration of complaints, petitions and other requests, which indicate a violation of law in the activity of the Academy, participation in the consideration of control materials, audit, inventory, issuance of legal opinions on the facts of the violations.
