The chair of the theory and the history of state and law of the Academy of the Interior Ministry was created in 1992 as a successor of the chair of state and legal disciplines founded in 1975 as a structural unit of the Minsk higher school of the Interior Ministry of the USSR.

Nowadays the chair of the theory and the history of state and law is one of the leading legal chairs in Belarus specializing in theory and history. The chair organizes and takes an active part in international, republican and interacademic scientific and practical conferences, workshops and round tables.


The chair closely cooperates with leading educational and research institutions of the Republic of Belarus and foreign countries.


Subjects taught at the chair:
  1. General theory of law;
  2. History of political and legal teachings;
  3. Law-making process;
  4. Sociology of law;
  5. History of state and law of foreign countries;
  6. History of state and law of the Republic of Belarus;
  7. History of internal affairs bodies of the Republic of Belarus;
  8. Great patriotic War of the Soviet people (within the context of the World War II).

The teaching staff makes use of the latest training techniques implementing innovative approaches such as role plays, panel games, intellectual workshops, computer-based training.


Main areas of scientific research:

  • Issues of the interconnection of theoretical and historical legal knowledge for its usage in perfecting law-enforcement activities of internal affairs bodies;
  • Theoretical and historical issues of the development of the Belarusian statehood and law, internal affairs bodies and legislation regulating law-enforcement activities;
  • Theory and history of state and law, history of internal affairs bodies, methodological issues of development of scientific knowledge and its usage in the activities of internal affairs bodies.
