The history of the chair of legal informatics began in May 1994 when the chair of administration and protection of public order split. Two new chairs emerged: the chair of public order protection and the chair of administration and informatics. In 2001 the chair was renamed into the Chair of legal informatics.

The staff of the chair is characterised by high creative, scientific and pedagogical potential, rich experience of work at higher educational establishments and for law-enforcement agencies.

Subjects taught at the chair:
  1. Fundamentals of information technology;
  2. Informatics and mathematics;
  3. Records management and regime of secrecy;
  4. Records management (for cadets – foreign specialists);
  5. Legal informatics;
  6. Legal informatics and informational support of law enforcement agencies;
  7. Fundamentals of information technology with an examination for a candidate credit;
  8. Fundamentals of information security and other subjects.
The teaching staff of the chair uses traditional forms of classes (lectures, seminars, practical classes). They are delivered by the lecturers of the chair and by the heads of the department of the regime and secret activity of the Interior Ministry of the Republic of Belarus, of the department on investigation of crimes in the sphere of high technologies. Practical classes make up 60 % of the total number of subjects and are delivered in computer classrooms of the chair and the faculty.

Education and methodical support

The chair has worked out and actively uses different computer test programmes in the educational process. All the subjects are provided with the different tests to check the knowledge of students. Slide-presentations for video-projectors and computer facilities are actively used. The staff of the chair introduces innovative technology into the educational sphere.

Main areas of scientific research:

The staff of the chair actively examines the problems of application of modern information technology in the law enforcement activities. A scientific research on the actual problems of introducing innovative forms of pedagogical activity with the use of information and communication technology is carried out. The staff of the chair does scientific research in the sphere of information security in law enforcement activity, in the sphere of protection of state interests, in combating crimes committed in the sphere of high technologies, and in the sphere of child pornography.

There is a scientific study group at the chair in which the cadets do scientific research under the supervision of lecturers. The cadets take part in academic and republican contests, scientific conferences and seminars.
